Wakulla Springs
Posted on: July 2nd, 2012 No CommentsThere’s no better place to escape the heat of a Tallahassee summer day than Wakulla Springs. Located in northern Wakulla county, the springs pumps out a whopping 250 million gallons of water per day and is the source of the Wakulla River. Since the water is being fed from a vent 185 feet below the surface, the temperature is a steady 69F year around. On cooler days, you can rent a kayak several miles up stream and spend a lazy day on the Wakulla River.

I don't think there are any pole vaulting fish, but they can get a little frisky when being chased by alligators.
On our most recent trip there, the swimming area had been shut down due to severe flooding following tropical storm Debby. The normally visible sand beach had been covered with water and several alligators were busy sunning themselves where children had played a week earlier (chills)! The park where the spring is located is teeming with wildlife, and there are boat tours I would highly recommend taking.
